Welcome to the history of the Valleys. Mohawk, Schoharie and upper Hudson Valleys of the New York Colony from 1740 to 1820. We are here to promote living history and support regional historic sites and historical societies ( see About the VHA )
During the American Revolution, families, friends, neighbors, patriots and British sympathizers were caught up in this colonial civil war. The Valley History Alliance/Burning of the Valleys Military Association (VHA/BVMA) traces its roots to planning for the 1990 reenactment of the 210th anniversary commemoration of Sir John Johnson's October 1780 raid into the Schoharie and Mohawk Valleys. The "burning of the valleys" described the aftermath of the most destructive Loyalist raid during the American Revolution.
And now, the Valley History Alliance represents interpretation of 1754 French & Indian War, American Revolution and the War of 1812, through historic battle recreations and Living History demonstrations at many historic houses and forts in the three valleys. See our Historic Sites and Associations page to find other significant historic sites in the area.
